Pandemic would be 'Disruptive' to Business

Should the recent cases of swine flu become a pandemic Clinical Director of Health in Business Dr David Gidlow advocates a simple approach that should be taken by all businesses both large and small.

Dr Gidlow explains, 'Have a straightforward plan in place, implement some simple measures that can be applied across the business, these would include:

  • Personal Hygiene

Keep your hands clean, use antibacterial hand washes
Use antibacterial wet wipes or fluids on door handles, door nobs and telephones

  • Reduce or eliminate the need for meetings

Ban meetings if possible or look at alternative ways of conducting a meeting by phone or email
Dont use canteens or other communal areas
Limit social contact within the workplace

  • Take Flu like symptoms seriously

Dont ask colleagues too come into work and  'see how they feel'
Stay at home

Each of these simple steps is to reduce the chance of spreading infection.
