Health Promotion Sessions
In any field of healthcare, early patient contact and education is vital. This is especially critical in the management of musculoskeletal injury and disorder. Without exception, the early management and actions of the injured person play a pivotal role in influencing their rate of recovery and the development of secondary complaints. All too regularly people are unsure of how to manage their symptoms, understandably adopt a “better not damage it further” attitude and subsequently their rehabilitation is adversely affected. Inevitably this has an effect on sickness absence.
Here at HIB, we have found that we see a lot of the same musculoskeletal problems on a day to day basis. Quite often these problems are entirely avoidable when one has an understanding of the problem and is able to make simple adjustments to their working day to help prevent them.
We have created an excellent series of individually tailored presentations on our most commonly encountered conditions. These are targeted toward educating the workforce on injury prevention and furnishing them with an understanding of the condition to “help them help themselves”.
These one hour sessions have proven very popular and had very positive effects on sickness absence. They should not be viewed as providing people with too much information, merely reinforcing a climate of injury prevention and pro-activity. We supply numerous relevant handouts and encourage plenty of interaction and, where appropriate, audience participation.
